Your Role as a DHH Teacher
As a DHH teacher, you will play a crucial role in the academic and social development of students who are Deaf or Hard of Hearing. You will employ tailored pedagogical strategies to meet each student’s unique needs while fostering an inclusive and engaging learning environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with hearing impairments.
- Utilize various teaching methods and assistive technology to enhance communication and learning.
- Collaborate with parents, caregivers, and other educators to create a supportive community around each student.
- Deliver engaging classroom instruction with a focus on differentiated learning strategies.
- Monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies to meet evolving needs.
- Provide mentorship and guidance to students both academically and personally.
- Participate in professional development opportunities to stay informed about best practices in special education.
Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field.
- Certification as a Deaf Education Specialist or a similar credential is preferred.
- Experience working with Deaf or Hard of Hearing students is a plus.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively with students, staff, and families.
- Familiarity with various teaching methodologies, including bilingual-bicultural and auditory-verbal approaches.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) is highly desirable.
